Q~ How should I pack? What clothing should I bring?

A~ Pack clothes for all seasons - bring your summer clothes but don’t forget to bring a warm sweater, pants, and a windbreaker jacket. Moose Factory can have dramatic temperature changes within just hours


Q~ Mosquitos, How do I protect myself?

A~ Mosquitos are attracted to dark clothing, perfumes and hairspray. It is also advised not to drink or eat a lot of ‘sweet’ foods because they can detect it on your skin. When packing for your trip we recommend that you to bring lighter colored clothing and insect repellent.



Q~ Is your establishment liquor licensed?
A~ No. Please note that there is no licensed facility (ie. Bar, pub) in Moose Factory. There is a LCBO store in Moosonee.


Q~ Where are the closest medical facilities?

A~ The Weeneebayko General Hospital is located less than a kilometre down the road from the Ecolodge.


Q~ What types of shops are available in Moose Factory?

A~
Northern Stores - Basic general store which is the main grocery and retail store.
GG’s- General and confectionary store
Northern Quickstop - Corner store with KFC and Pizza Hut outlet.
Bertha’s Variety - Corner Store
The Gift Basket - House and Gift wares


Q~ If there is no road to Moosonee / Moose Factory, how do I get there?
A~ Take a train from Cochrane to Moosonee via the Ontario Northland railway www.northlander.ca or fly in by plane from Timmins to Moosonee www.aircreebec.ca


Q~ Once in Moosonee how do I get to the Cree Village Ecolodge?
A~ There are many methods of getting to Moose Factory, depending on what time of year it is.

late spring to early fall - go down to the public docks (land taxi $3.00/person flat rate) and then get into a boat taxi ($8.00/person flat rate) - tell the boat taxi driver that you would like to be dropped off at the Cree Village docks and you will be dropped off in front of the Ecolodge.

Ice break up or freeze up (spring and fall) - You will have to go to the airport in Moosonee and take a helicopter from Moosonee (land taxi to and from the airport is a flat rate of $4.00) to Moose Factory ($35.00/ person flat rate)

Midwinter - By taxi from Moosonee to Moose Factory via the ice road (range from $8.00 - $14.00 / person - depending on your departing location and time of day)


Q ~ Will I be able to view the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) from the Ecolodge?

A~ Northern lights are quite common in night skies over Moose Factory. The Ecolodge staff would be more than happy to call you if they appear during the night sky.
